Direct Freshman Admission

What is the Direct Freshman Guaranteed Admission Option?
The University of Indianapolis offers a unique program called the Direct Freshman Guaranteed Admission Option designed for incoming freshmen who have declared pre-OT and have earned no more than 12 college credits prior to admission to the University of Indianapolis. This option will guide these freshmen through their undergraduate career, and if all requirements are met, these students will be guaranteed admission into our entry-level graduate program without going through the usual graduate admission process.

How do I qualify for the Direct Freshman Guaranteed Admission Option?
To be considered for selection into the Direct Freshman Guaranteed Admission Program, candidates must be admitted into any undergraduate degree program by the University of Indianapolis and be determined by the occupational therapy admissions staff to have met the following requirements:

1. Rank in the top quarter of their high school class with comparable SAT or ACT scores.
2. Demonstrate proficiency in high school math and science courses.
3. Successfully complete the following high school courses:
   • One year of biology
   • One year of chemistry
   • Three years of college preparatory math including algebra, geometry, advanced algebra/trigonometry
   • One year of physics is recommended.

Once admitted, students must maintain specific academic standards to maintain their guaranteed status into the graduate phase. These standards include:

• If following the 4-1.5 Option, all undergraduate major requirements must be met before entering the graduate program, or if following the bachelor's degree option, the bachelor's degree must be completed before entering the graduate program.
• Students must complete all occupational therapy prerequisite course work with a minimum 3.0 GPA before entering the graduate program.
• Earning a grade of "C" or higher in all occupational therapy prerequisite course work.
• Maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Attending a yearly, scheduled advising session with an assigned occupational therapy advisor, and providing required documentation.
